Director: Etienne De Villiers
This Fine Arts graduate from the silly seventies was a lecturer and award-winning artist, until he proudly proclaimed: Art is Dead, Long Live Film! Now older and mellower (like the Shiraz vines he tenderly nurtures and cultivates at his Muizenberg vineyard) he knows that All of Life is - indeed, alas - Art.
Gradually moving away from his groundbreaking work in television - writing, producing and directing iconic documentaries and drama series - Etienne has, for the last decade, focussed exclusively on commercials. His astute eye for local colour and texture enables this innovative performance director to mine the core of the South African psyche, thereby producing some of this country's most memorable and award-winning slice-of-life commercials. His almost freakish knack for original, sometimes quirky, yet always highly successful casting, and his meticulous eye for detail, makes him the director of choice to create meaningful commercial narratives - from Russia to Rustenburg.
